Late Summer Perfume Releases We Can’t Get Enough Of

Smells like in-between seasons.

Rainy days are coming to us here in Kuala Lumpur, but the days can still be balmy. For those transitional in-between periods, these new, late-summer perfume releases will be perfect to keep you feeling lush. Floral fragrances are aplenty, but these choices will prove that not all floral scents evoke the same mood. Plus, there’s an addition in this list that features a note that is very close to our Malaysian hearts—it’s one that you either love or hate.

Below, check out some of the new perfume releases from the late summer that have gotten us excited.

Les Essences de Diptyque Lazulio

Diptyque has just added a new perfume to its premium Les Essences collection: Lazulio. It is inspired by the semi-precious blue stone lapis lazuli and the hypnotic qualities of a peacock feather—but what exactly do these things smell like? Lazulio opens with rhubarb accord; slightly sharp and bright with that green freshness the plant is often known for, then evolves into a creamier, darker tinge with benzoin and rose, before the vetiver hits.

BDK Impadia

Imagine a golden pink sunset coming down on the terraces of apartments in Paris, with the Eiffel Tower in the background. That was precisely the inspiration behind BDK’s Impadia, a new floral, fruity gourmand perfume from the brand. The fragrance opens bright and fresh with pear, bergamot, and mandarin, before making way to a sumptuous floral bouquet of Bulgarian and Turkish rose, and African orange flower. Impadia wraps it up in a creamy bow at the base with Akigalawood, Vanilla Absolute, and sandalwood.

Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal Intense

Now here’s a new summer perfume that we can envision transitioning into the colder months. Jean Paul Gaultier’s Scandal Intense is an oriental floral fragrance, crafted for “exuberant femininity with addiction as the final destination”. Floral, creamy, and most certainly intense, the scent opens with spicy cardamom to pique interest, before developing into a sensual ylang ylang note, ending with creamy and luxurious Vanilla Absolute.

Aesop Above Us, Steorra

It’s been a good year for Aesop fragrance-wise, and they’ve partnered with Celine Barel—who previously created Tacit and Aurner—once again for a new fragrance: Above Us, Steorra. Inspired by the constellations on the night sky and the multifaceted nature of amber, this fragrance evokes a sense of wonder and contemplation about the great unknown. Cardamom opens the fragrance alongside bergamot, with the warmth of labdanum and earthy notes of Frankincense. Vanilla bean and cinnamon finish off the scent.

Tamburins Sunshine

Tamburins has managed to capture Sunshine in a bottle, and it smells nostalgic—like running through a forest filled with blooming Angelica. In fact, it is the top note in Sunshine, alongside salty mineral accords, followed by middle notes of muguet, jasmine, and incense for that mysterious, floral touch. At its base, guaiacwood, cashmeran, and musk—evoking a “serene autumn night filled with soft warmth”.

BORNTOSTANDOUT Gold Juice

Love it or hate it, but you—or us—would have never expected durian to be a perfume note. Alas, we are talking about BORNTOSTANDOUT, the audacious Korean fragrance brand. Gold Juice marries mango and durian, but the former seems to shine brighter than the creamy notes of durian, with rhubarb to ground the tropical notes back to earth. Osmanthus and white flowers form the middle notes, and the scent ends on a sweet note with caramel, almond, and guaiacwood.
