Everything We Know About The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special

In the words of the Disney darling herself: ‘Oh Yeah.’

Hannah Montana is officially back in our lives, with Disney+’s 20th Anniversary Special leaving the internet collectively losing its mind. At the centre of it all is Miley Cyrus herself, who is slipping back into her blonde alter-ego for the first time in decades.

From the 2006 to 2011, Cyrus appeared onscreen as average teen Miley Stewart by day, and global pop-star Hannah Montana by night. Armed with a bedazzled wardrobe, a full-fringed wig, and anthems such as ‘The Best Of Both Worlds’ and ‘Rockstar,’ the Disney Channel show raised an entire generation.

Now, two decades on, Miley is leaning all the way into the nostalgia. The ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer has long been teasing some kind of ‘Hannahversary’ celebration, with the news confirmed in February that a special – hosted by _Call Her Daddy’_s Alex Cooper – would land on the streaming platform on March 24th. It marks the latest update in a long line of former Disney Channel stars who are coming to the fore in 2026 – from music revivals to roles in hit TV shows.

But thanks to one very telling moment in the trailer, fans are convinced this is just the beginning for Hannah Montana – with a world tour potentially on the cards. In the teaser, _Call Her Daddy’_s Alex Cooper is seen saying to Miley, ‘You have something special planned.’ Miley cryptically replies, ‘Let’s do it.’

When does the episode air in the Malaysia? Who will appear? And is Hannah Montana really going on tour? Here’s everything we know about the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary special.

So, is there really going to be a Hannah Montana tour?

In the teaser for her Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, Miley was seen confirming that she has ‘something special planned.’ ‘We have so many shared memories. We actually grew up together,’ she tells the crowd, adding, ‘I loved being Hannah then, I’m so living for it now.’

Naturally, it’s left fans wondering whether there could be more Hannah Montana goodness coming our way. Namely, a world tour…

‘I think we’re going to get something else that’s announced during the show,’ one fan wrote on social media, as another added, ‘I would sell my kidney for tickets to a Hannah Montana world tour.’

But despite fan speculation (and certainly the demand), neither Miley nor Disney have announced any plans for a tour.

In fact, Miley herself hasn’t actually toured since her 2014 ‘Bangerz’ tour. She revealed in a 2023 interview with British Vogue that ‘singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn’t really the thing that I love. There’s no connection. There’s no safety. It’s also not natural. It’s so isolating because if you’re in front of 100,000 people, then you are alone.’

So while a tour would be the ultimate fantasy for Disney fans, it’s far from confirmed.

Other suggestions for what might be coming our way has included a new movie, or some rebooted episodes. Indeed, the 20th Anniversary Special is a series of interviews with Miley about the show, so it doesn’t entirely squash the idea of a reboot one day.

Others have guessed a new Hannah Montana album could be on the cards. Given that Miley has re-recorded some of her iconic Hannah songs, alongside a brand new one, this is one theory that could land…

When does the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special come out?

You’ll be able to watch the special over on Disney+ from March 24, 2026, marking exactly 20 years since the show first debuted on Disney Channel. As for what time it comes out, Disney+ typically drop new things at 3 am ET – which equates to around 4 pm in Malaysia. Set your alarms!

Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection,’ Miley said in a Disney+ press release. ‘The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This “Hannahversary” is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years.’

What is the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special about?

According to a press release from Disney+, the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special will be filmed in front of a live studio audience, and include an in-depth interview with Miley herself, hosted by Call Her Daddy’s Alex Cooper.

Alongside the interview, there’ll be never-before-seen archival footage, as well as rebuilt versions of the iconic sets from the show – including the Stewart family living room and Hannah’s rotating closet. Excuse us while we get emotional…

Plus, there’ll be some singing too! Miley has officially re-recorded ‘Best Of Both Worlds,’ ‘This Is The Life,’ and ‘The Climb’ (which Miley performed for the streaming platform back in 2023 for her Endless Summer Vacation backyard session). She also has a new, original song that will appear.

Who’s coming back for the Hannah Montana20th Anniversary Special?

Miley and her real-life dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, will both be returning for the special. Billy Ray (who played dad Robby Ray Stewart on the show) is seen reuniting with his daughter in a replica of the Stewart family living room, with the two sitting down to recount stories from the audition process. Miley’s mum, Tish Cyrus, also appears in the special to revisit Hannah Montana’s iconic wardrobe.

During an interview with Variety, Miley confirmed that her fellow Disney Channel alumni Selena Gomez (who played Hannah’s pop-star rival Mikayla on season two) will also make a cameo. Miley shared, ‘I love Selena, but I didn’t know how much our friendship meant to the fans.’

Alongside these confirmed names, Disney has also teased that there’ll be some other ‘familiar faces and surprise guests.’ Hannah Montana cast members such as Emily Osment (who played Miley’s best friend Lilly) and Jason Earles (who played Miley’s brother Jackson) have all posted about the show’s anniversary, although it’s not known whether they’ll appear just yet. Fans are also hoping to see a glimpse of Mitchel Musso (who played Oliver) and Moises Arias (who played Rico), as well as potential appearances from famous Hannah Montana alumni, such as the Jonas Brothers or Dolly Parton.

What has Miley Cyrus said about the Hannah Montana special?

During an interview with Variety, Miley admitted that it was her godmother Dolly Parton who helped bring the Hannah Montana special to life.

‘I learned this terrible habit – but I actually think it was good advice – from Dolly,’ Miley said. ‘She told me that if you want something to happen, promote it before it exists. Then no one can say no. So I just started promoting a Hannah Montana 20th-anniversary special that literally did not exist.’

It was something Miley had spoken about previously, telling Ryan Seacrest in July 2025 that she was hoping for something big to celebrate her ‘Hannahversary.’

‘I want to design something really, really special for it because it really was the beginning of all of this that now sits here today,’ she explained. ‘Without Hannah, there really wouldn’t be this… Me. It’s so crazy to think that I started as a character that I thought would be impossible to shed, and now, that’s something that when I walk into a space, it’s looked at as this sense of nostalgia or something that you have from your childhood. But now, I’ve sort of been integrated into everyone’s life as the character has.’
