When you work with Miuccia Prada, especially under the youthful lens she applies to her work at Miu Miu, you can count on two sartorial staples. Namely, an explosion of embellishments and a boyish element to bring contrast and dimension to an otherwise ultra-feminine silhouette.
Certified Miu Miu-ite, Sydney Sweeney, knows this modus operandi well. So, it was no surprise that the actress arrived on the beige carpet for the New York premiere of Anyone But You in Mrs. Prada’s signature.
To promote her upcoming romantic comedy—which is slated to bring R-rated sensuality back to cinema—the 26-year-old dazzled in a transparent slip dress adorned with hundreds of appliquéd crystals. The nouveau slip featured sweet spaghetti straps, a flirty neckline, a cinching leather belt and ice-like crystal pendants that brought a touch of festive frost.
A fitting move considering the timing. The Miu Miu dress also combined two of the year’s biggest trends—naked dressing and high-octane sequins—making one of the concluding red carpets of 2023 a cumulation of the fashion that was.
Sweeney’s dress wasn’t the only highlight of the evening. While speaking to the press, Sweeney’s co-star, Glen Powell, revealed making the film wasn’t always smooth sailing. (Despite the majority taking place in and around Sydney Harbour).
Powell explained that he “almost died” during shooting when filming a nude scene on a cliff edge. “Taking your clothes off on the side of a cliff in a hurry is not safe either,” Powell explained. “Nobody talks about that safety issue on set, where I almost died falling off a cliff taking my pants off too fast,” he continued before adding, “but it’s a really fun scene, so it was all worth it.”
Sweeney was also the victim of a spider bite while filming said scene. But it appears the production helped to build a rapport between the two leads, with Sweeney adding, “I’m very acquainted with Glen now.”
