Culture isn’t dead. At least, not where the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) is concerned. Here at GRAZIA Malaysia, we’re all for eschewing typical date night ideas in favour of a night out at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP), catching some excellent shows while admiring the stunning architecture within.
While Romantic era enthusiasts can marvel at the hall acoustics while listening to the complex, melancholic rhythms of Rachmaninoff, the MPO offers much more than just classical-style music. In recent years, musical scores from contemporary movies have become quite popular amongst the younger and older crowd alike, with many wishing to catch their favourite movies’ music played by a live orchestra. From the sold-out Symphonic Ghibli themed performance to a night of romance and heartbreak with La La Land in orchestra, there truly is something for everyone in the realm of orchestral music.

With a full year so far and a full year ahead, the MPO will end the 2025 season with the MPO Ballet Festival, featuring two consecutive weekends of ballet: Swan Lake on December 5th and 6th, and The Nutcracker on December 12th and 13th. Perfect for the festive season, these ballet plays are the best of the best, and features the Ballet Stars of Moscow led by Stanislav Kochanovsky. Next year? Stay tuned for some musical greats, from sape player Alena Murang to another Studio Ghibli symphonic performance, tributes to Alfonso Soliano, and more.
