The Portable Speaker We Actually Want to Show Off

Devialet’s Mania gets three new finishes for 2026, pairing a statement-making look with 360-degree sound and a surprisingly capable audio performance.

There are portable speakers, and then there are portable speakers you actually want to leave out on display (show them off a little, you know). The Devialet Mania has always had a little more personality than most, and the 2026 Exclusive Collection now looks at three new finishes: Moss Green, Rose Bloom and White Mist. I spent some time with the Rose Bloom, and while the colour certainly gets your attention, there is more to the Mania than its very pretty exterior.

The Rose Bloom version takes the speaker into softer territory, pairing a powdery pink body with an orange-toned metallic ring and small hits of orange on the handle and woofer. It is playful and feels particularly well suited to a home where tech is expected to look dull. It also comes with its own Cocoon carry case, made from technical fabric and finished with a utility strap. Two carabiners are included, one fixed and one removable, which makes the whole package feel designed for moving around, rather than taking them out only when you want to use it.

That portability does come with some weight. At 2.3kg, the Mania is compact but certainly not featherlight. The upside is that it feels substantial and well put together. There is a handle at the top, while the controls sit on the side and are rubberised for a little extra protection. The speaker has an IPX4 rating, so it can handle splashes, but this is not something I would casually dunk in a pool, though I’ve brought it to the beach and it all went well.

Inside, the Mania remains a fairly serious piece of audio equipment. Its four full-range drivers are arranged to deliver 360-degree sound, with two bass drivers working in a push-push configuration. Devialet’s Active Stereo Calibration technology uses four microphones to read the surrounding environment and adjust the sound accordingly, while Speaker Active Matching is designed to maintain fidelity across the frequency range. There is also up to 10 hours of battery life, which makes it practical enough for a long afternoon away from the mains.

Connectivity covers the essentials too: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, Spotify Connect and AirPlay 2 are all supported, alongside Alexa voice control. The Mania also operates within Devialet’s DOS 2 software ecosystem, which is intended to keep the experience straightforward across different listening setups.

But specifications only tell you so much. What I noticed first when using the Rose Bloom was how easily it slipped into my everyday routine. I moved it around the house easily, where it worked particularly well while I was cooking, getting ready, or simply having music on in the background.

I tested it across a mix of genres, from jazz and acoustic tracks to pop and electronic music, and the thing that kept standing out was the clarity. Vocals came through with plenty of definition, while bass had enough presence to give music some physicality without completely swallowing everything else. Turn the volume up, and it remains impressively composed, although its physical limitations become more apparent with especially dense or large-scale recordings.

For me, that is where the Mania makes its case. It is not a replacement for a full hi-fi setup, and it doesn’t try to be that. What I like is having something that can move through the house, indoors and outdoors, while camping or picnicking, with me, while still sounding properly considered. And, frankly, the finish makes me want to leave it somewhere visible rather than hide it away.

At this price point, the Mania is undoubtedly a considered purchase. But if design matters almost as much as sound, the Devialet Mania makes a convincing argument for why a speaker can be both functional and something you genuinely enjoy having around.
