Thanks to her, a whole new generation knew not to wash their hair immediately after getting a perm or after they had rebonded their hair. But it’s more than that, of course. The list of don’ts is endless: you need to avoid tying, brushing, or using heat tools in the 48-72 hour period. You can only use sulfate-free shampoo, hydrate deeply with conditioner, and sleep on satin to maintain curl health. You cannot swim in chlorine, and you must avoid harsh chemical treatments such as colouring or bleaching—some hairdressers even advise against it completely—for at least one week.
