For four days every July, Paris becomes a fantastical world of fashion. The industry’s most skilled ateliers will unveil creations stitched together over hundreds of hours, each one made by hand and in remarkably small numbers. Although craftsmanship is very much the focal point of Haute Couture Week, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t keeping tabs on the guest list too.
Schiaparelli opened the week as one of couture’s most anticipated fixtures. Daniel Roseberry charted a course from the shoreline to the ocean floor in The Abyss collection, inspired by marine life. Iridescent gowns and shimmering shell-like motifs often found in shallower waters soon gave way to silicone tentacles emerging from shoulders and vertebrae-inspired stitching, echoing the alien beauty of the ocean depths. To witness Roseberry’s deep sea exploration, Michelle Yeoh sat front row in an elegant black off-shoulder look, providing quite a contrast to Emma Corrin’s surrealist feathered jacket adorned with sculpted bird beaks.
Soon after, Jonathan Anderson staged his sophomore haute couture collection for Dior. Taking cues from sculptor Lynda Benglis, Anderson approached the atelier like an artist’s studio, turning hand-plissé, knotting, and draping into sculptural exercises. For the occasion, the house lent a few looks from its Resort 2027 collection to Sabrina Carpenter and Han Sohee, both arriving in ethereal draped gowns embellished with florals.
With plenty still on the calendar, the celebrity sightings are only expected to ramp up. Pierpaolo Piccioli’s haute couture debut for Balenciaga is one to watch—as is its front row, which will count PP Krit among its attendees. This week will also usher in a new chapter for Jean Paul Gaultier as Duran Lantink presents his first couture collection for the house since becoming creative director. Meanwhile, Manish Malhotra becomes only the fourth Indian designer to show on the official Haute Couture Week calendar.
Ahead, the celebrities bringing their own brand of couture to Paris.
