We Don’t Need Another Hero, by Jay Tan and Yin Yin Wong
Wei-Ling Gallery invites you to We Don’t Need Another Hero, a thought-provoking exhibition by Jay Tan and Yin Yin Wong. This duo examines the weight and complexity of traditional heroic ideals through family lore, cultural memory, and personal reflection. Instead of valour and glory, the artworks focus on subtle symbols—props, quiet gestures, and ambiguous figures—all while challenging the myth of the noble ‘hero in white’ found in Chinese cultural history. Through video, sculpture, and text, the exhibition reflects on diaspora, masculinity, and the fluid nature of identity.

Ashes and Access — On the Fragility of Belonging, by Ain
Join Malaysian artist Ain for a deeply personal artist talk as she explores her latest solo exhibition, Atas Pagar. Using ash as both medium and metaphor, Ain reflects on impermanence, memory, and the invisible thresholds that shape our lives. Inspired by a break-in at her grandmother’s house, she turns gates and grilles into symbols of protection and exclusion. The phrase ‘atas pagar’ (meaning to sit on the fence) captures the artworks’ central tension: a life lived in-between. So, explore how art can give form to the delicate balance between safety and belonging.
