If you love coffee and hate commitment, you can keep things casual now with your coffee maker. Some mornings call for a sleek espresso shot, others for a lazy pour-over, and there’s now a way to satisfy those caffeine cravings sans the upfront splurge. Because not every relationship needs to start with a big purchase, Nespresso has brought in a subscription model that starts from RM50 for a machine, then RM80 to RM250 a month with credits to spend on coffee and accessories. Credits also accumulate and can be spent on any Nespresso product, so the choice is in the hands of the consumer, should they wish to spend it immediately or save up for a stylish capsule dispenser.
Whether you want a coffee with the familiar Fall aroma of Pumpkin Spice Cake, or the refreshing hit that comes with Peppermint Pinwheel, it can be done without leaving the house, and without effort. Do note—there is a difference between Original and Vertuo offerings available with the subscription, making some coffee capsules exclusive to some machines. The main difference between Original and Vertuo is the brewing method, with the latter being more versatile, and fitting larger cups, while the former is suited to that classic, strong espresso. The subscription lets you choose your preferred machine out of seven options, geared for different coffee needs and tastes.

The most economical option is the Essenza Mini, which, after the starter fee of RM50, is only RM80 per month. It’s compact, light and best for coffee beginners, with all the Nespresso Original coffees available. The Vertuo Pop, a slightly pricier option (but definitely cuter in a new lilac colourway), RM140 a month. It uses Nespresso’s barcode-reading technology to combine a centrifugal force with infusion for a full, balanced extraction and a smooth layer of crema.
From the starting day of the subscription, customers officially own their coffee machines with the same two-year warranty as a purchased machine, and if they back out and change their minds, the machine’s still theirs to keep. Sticking to the no-strings attached approach, any unused credit will also be valid for up to 12 months after the subscription ends. There’s a cancellation fee (varies according to the chosen plan), but safe to say—it’ll end on good terms.
