Coach Airways: A Pop-up Inside a Plane

Hop on for an aviation-themed journey with Coach.

The Coach Airways has officially touched down. If Jonker Street or Malacca River are the only places you plan to visit for your next Malacca trip, here’s another spot to add to your itinerary. Visit the Coach Airways at Freeport A’Famosa Outlet, housed inside a retired Boeing 747—yes, an actual aircraft.

Grab yourself a ticket, we are about to take off. As immersive as the experience is, you will need to walk through an air bridge to start your aviation journey with Coach. Get your camera ready because as soon as you step foot on the illuminating dance floor tiles, you will see a cockpit surrounded by soft pink controllers against a peach-hued wall. The kitschy colour combination definitely reminds us of a scene right out of a Wes Anderson film.

If flying first class is your drill, the good news is each passenger seat comes with a considerable amount of legroom. Jetsetters will know how sacred that is. Can we also just say, the details got us all swooning. From the safety handbook you’ll find at the back of the seats to the blinking seatbelt signs? Adorable. Inspired by the 70s, the structures and vintage design mimic the golden era of air travel. Another “golden touch”? All the seats are emblazoned with a Coach Signature, the iconic jacquard “C” pattern.

The fun doesn’t stop there. After all, this is a 4,198 square foot aircraft we’re talking about. Behind the bulkheads is where the retail area comes in—that is, where you splurge on yourself. Think in-flight shopping, minus the in-flight catalogue. Ranging from all-gender ready-to-wear, leather goods like bags and purses, and travel accessories, you’ll be spoilt for choices. The house has also unveiled an exclusive Coach Airways Collection with a limited rendition of the Signature print. You can find travel must-haves like passport leather cases, travel tags, or wheeled carry-on luggage bags.

What’s a plane ride without some in-flight beverages? Before you exit the aircraft, don’t forget to grab a cup of drink from the last cabin. This is the second instalment of Coach Cafe—the first in Singapore—in the world. You can pick from a selection of thirst-quenching fruit juices and artisanal coffee. (P.S. They also offer oat milk for lactose-intolerant drinkers like me!)
