Eyewear Trends To Look Out For in Summer 2025

Sun's out, shades on.

Sunglasses are getting more eyeballs, cutting the mustard with trends that placed the fashion accessory at the forefront of the Summer fashion conversation in 2025—along with the bags and shoes charms. As the Spring/Summer 2025 runways steered away from the microtrends—music to our ears—accessories now play a vital role. As reported, the dominating style for the season is soft power, where the tension between soft fabrics—for the New Romance or Boho Chic styles—and the fierce comeback of power dressing, as seen on Saint Laurent, the presence of eyewear has gone from a supporting role to the main character. The frames are memorable, a linchpin even, on fashion runways.

The recent resurgence of 60’s oversized frames, sleek brimless or even the ornate blinged out pairs—a bijoux, really—Gentle Monster has taken root in, for example, has proven that in a time where personalisation reigns supreme in the fashionverse, having a pair or two shades in your bag is a game changer, and what’s more, they also serve as a shield especially in our excruciatingly sunny climate.

Below, peruse the sunglasses trends we are gladly hopping on this Summer.

Extra-Wide Temples

Despite the previous microscopic frame mayhem, the appeal of oversized eyewear never fades. Not only are they practical, but they are also a form of self-expression, adding an allure of mystique to the wearer—often a statement in power dressing. This year, we spotted increasingly wider temples on these big glasses. A$AP Rocky, for instance, turned up to the Met Gala 2025 with thick sunglasses adorned with the lettering of his creative label, AWGE. That said, the rapper has also launched the Blacked Out Collection, a customised eyewear line for Ray-Ban Studios. Shades of similar silhouette, full black and wide temples, are available for grabs. Following the announcement of Kendrick Lamar as the brand ambassador of the fashion powerhouse, Chanel also rolls out its Spring/Summer 2025 eyewear campaign, featuring bold pairs—thick temples with idiosyncratic adornments as seen also on Lupita Nyong’o.

Get set, go

The fashion and sports relationship is picking up speed. As seen on Dior’s archery-themed Spring/Summer 2025 runway to the anorak jackets on Bottega Veneta’s, the influx of athletic influences in fashion has eventually become an anchor for many fashion brands. It’s only a matter of time for the eyewear domain to embrace this convergence. While performance-driven sunglass makers like Oakley make their way into the fashion literati’s wardrobes, fashion brands too are zoning into sport-inspired eyewear. Be it the wrap-around shields from Burberry, or the streamlined frames—mostly with a futuristic twist—from Fendi’s Spring/Summer 2025, these shades are here to stay.

The Otherworldly

In the previous seasons, we’ve given way to the office siren glasses, and now it’s time to sprinkle in some otherworldly panache. Be it the alien or the bug eyes, the offbeat and oddly-shaped sunglasses are a revival that takes us down the memory lane of the heyday of grunge rock. Think Kurt Cobain’s, but bigger. Centring the digital dystopian, Prada, for instance, unveils a peculiar range of eyewear. Encapsulating the sci-fi fever dream, these drooping and outrageously large lenses cover at least three-quarters of our faces. Playing around with the colours—for both the frames and the lenses, Miu Miu took a nostalgic turn for their Spring/Summer 2025 offerings. These Jackie-O-lookalikes have a comparably subtle approach. Loewe and Marni, on the other hand, tapped on ’70s-esque aviators and metal frame silhouettes for a more classic and timeless design.

Sunset Tint

As seen in Tory Burch’s sporty collection and Chloé’s dreamy Bohemian runway, the sunglasses with tinted lenses, especially in the hues of sunset, are the pièce de résistance this summer. From fiery reds and bubblegum purple to Mocha Mousse brown and butter yellow, these pairs add a bold touch to even the most monotonous looks, on top of their practicality. The mercurial rise in the popularity of tinted sunglasses over the past seasons rides on the tide of nostalgia—a theme that the fashion sphere is obsessed with currently.
