Why Olivia Dean Loves the New, More Fluid and Playful Clash de Cartier Collection

It's the clash effect, and it's what we need.

The idea of Cartier’s “clash” is where multiple ideas come together—clashing—but still as one: feminine and masculine, bold yet subtle, sharp yet gentle. First launched in 2019, the collection has gradually evolved into a favourite for many.

As a master of shapes since the early 1900s, Cartier has long pushed past traditional jewellery rules with a bold, distinctive style, often drawing on industrial influences. This spirit came alive in the 1920s and 30s, with sharp studs, square clous, and stacked beads bringing striking volume to watches and accessories. These designs were admired for their strength and structure, and Clash de Cartier takes that heritage and transforms it into a modern statement, turning classic motifs into a fresh jewellery identity.

This year, the Maison has further evolved the collection, adding ideas that challenge Clash de Cartier’s geometric design. The collection now includes fully flexible versions and the first-ever yellow gold necklaces and bracelets, previously only in rose gold. They are made using both traditional craftsmanship and high-precision engineering. Up to 600 tiny parts are fitted together with extreme accuracy, so the jewellery feels comfortable and fluid. Each piece is hand-polished and designed to move freely, creating a soft sound carefully perfected during development.

Clash de Cartier, also known for its studded mesh, is pushing its style further with coloured stones, onyx, larger-than-ever pieces, and adjustable designs. Shades such as red and green agate, pink chalcedony, and onyx bring new vibrancy to the collection. Rings, pendants, and earrings feature hard stone beads paired with rose gold studs, emphasising their bold, architectural shapes.

Olivia Dean, the English singer-songwriter making waves worldwide with hits like “OK Love You Bye” and “Man I Need,” has been seen wearing Cartier in her music video, “So Easy (To Fall in Love).” Here, she shares why she’s loving the latest Clash de Cartier pieces.

What do you love most about the Clash de Cartier collection?

What I love most is how playful it is. The movement in the beads gives everything this cool, tactile feel. It’s bold without trying too hard. I also really love the newer pieces; they’re bolder in scale or have unexpected pops of colour, which makes them feel fresh and fun to wear.

Do you find yourself drawn more to onyx, pink chalcedony, red or green agate—or do you lean toward an all-gold look?

I love colourful moments, but I always reach for an all-gold look—I think it goes with everything. It’s iconic and timeless.

Do you have any jewellery that holds a special meaning for you?

All the women in my family have a bangle with gold from Guyana. I wear it every single day and have a matching piece with my mum and my auntie. I love feeling connected with jewellery.

How do you like to style your jewellery in everyday life or on special occasions? Do you have a go-to piece that you never leave the house without? Why that particular piece?

Day to day, I keep things simple—usually a few rings or small hoops, layered in a way that feels like me. For something more dressed up, I’ll go for a bolder piece to elevate the look, but I still want it to feel natural. I always wear gold earrings, though. They’ve kind of become my signature—they just tie everything together.

What’s it like working with a Maison as legendary as Cartier?

It’s such a special experience. Cartier has this amazing mix of history and creativity—they honour tradition but still feel modern. I love that they really celebrate individuality. It feels like a genuine fit, and I’m proud to be part of it.

Can you share a bit about the creative projects you are currently working on?

I’ve just released my second album, The Art of Loving, and I can’t wait to tour it around the world and connect with people through my music.
