Jennette McCurdy’s bombshell bestseller is coming to the small screen. The actress’s memoir, “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” has been greenlit for a 10-episode miniseries, which will air on Apple TV+, with the titular mother role already cast.

McCurdy will take on the roles of showrunner, writer, and executive producer for the series, alongside Ari Katcher (Ramy and The Carmichael Show). As of July 3, Jennifer Aniston has been cast in the role of McCurdy’s mother, Debra, with other casting news yet to be announced, as per Deadline.

The dramedy series, as described in Apple’s press release, will entail “a heartbreaking and hilarious recounting of McCurdy’s struggles as a former child actor while dealing with her overbearing, domineering mother.” The release goes on to iterate the exact timeline and setting of the show.

“The dramedy will centre on the codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress in a hit kids’ show, and her narcissistic mother who relishes in her identity as ‘a starlet’s mother,’ set to be played by Aniston.”

From the description thus far, it appears the show will adhere closely to the themes of McCurdy’s original book, which spent 80 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list following its 2022 release. Assuredly, for readers, particularly in the way that McCurdy’s writing balances the tragic and the comedic.

“I definitely laughed a ton while writing; I cried while writing,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in August 2022.

“To me, [it’s] about being honest with the dynamic experience of being a person: the highs, the lows, the funny, the sad, the drama, the comedy. It’s all of those layers.”

While we don’t have a release date yet, when it does air, something tells us the memoir’s TV adaptation will be inspiring just as many tears and just as many laughs.
