SHFW: It’s Big Girl Agenda at Shushu/Tong Spring/Summer 2026

"As long as I'm beautiful."

A month before their showcase at the Shanghai Fashion Week, we spoke to Shushu/Tong duo, Liushu Lei and Yutong Jiang. As their brand celebrates its tenth anniversary, they revealed that for the Spring/Summer 2026 collection, the Shushu/Tong girl is poised to become “more rebellious.”

For the uninitiated, the label has long woven cinematic magic into its fabric, drawing inspiration from works like Fruits of Passion to Heathers. This season, they turn to the introspective journey of Cléo from 5 to 7, anchoring the collection around a line from the film: “As long as I’m beautiful, I’m alive.” In the world of Shushu/Tong, this notion of beauty is transformed—or rather, evolved. “Here, beauty is no longer mere ornament,” the show notes declare. “It becomes an inner force that confronts chaos and uncertainty.”

We have grown accustomed to the Shushu/Tong girl as prim and proper—her hair in a clean, no-fuss high ponytail, her form sheathed in a well-pleated babydoll dress, occasionally adorned with a symmetrical bow. Now, that meticulous order begins to unravel. We see distressed textures and frayed finishes—even on gowns, straps falling off the shoulders and necklines that mimic unbuttoned trousers. Leather pieces, from outerwear to dresses, bear a patina of age, as if weathered by time and experience.

The colour palette, too, has expanded tremendously from previous seasons. If the Fall/Winter 2025 collection saw the designers testing the waters with more options, this season is an outright indulgence that embraces almost every possibility (hue), from bright emerald green to vivid orange. This is a girl who no longer fears colour; she now welcomes the clash.

We once asked the duo how their ‘girl’ has matured over the years, and this collection feels like the answer. The Shushu/Tong girl now stands time-honoured. She is not the pristine beauty of yesterday, but what remains—stronger, more resonant—after the porcelain shatters.
