At the Vanity Table with… Daiyan Trisha

The icon divulges her beauty secrets. Take note.

At the Vanity Table With… is a series that dives into a personality’s beauty tips, tricks, non-negotiables, and more. In this edition, singer-songwriter, actress, and model Daiyan Trisha shares the beauty products that are on her wish list, her girl crush, and more.

The multifaceted Daiyan Trisha isn’t just fluent in the language of fashion and music; she is also a native beauty darling. It doesn’t matter where she is—you can catch her on stage singing her heart out, or in real life as she runs around the city—one thing remains constant: Daiyan will always be flawlessly put together.

Many would say she won the genetic lottery, but it’s more than that. The singer-songwriter is also the epitome of discipline, and it came as no surprise that she applies that same rhetoric to her self-care routine. When you are living life on the go and are constantly in and out of a makeup chair, serious care is usually what follows. But that doesn’t mean Daiyan is uptight about products and treatments; it just means that she goes into those with extra care—for both herself and the audience that looks forward to her endorsements.

Whether you are a proud member of Daiyanation or a true-blue beauty enthusiast, our conversation with the guest editor brings to light her beauty takes, controversial and not, the must-haves, and the never-agains.

Confess a beauty crime that you have committed before

Unnatural, bright-coloured contact lenses in the mid-2010s. In my defence, it was the trend back then. But looking back at the photos, I face-palm! What even was I thinking?

A beauty item you would immediately replace if it’s lost

Hair claws. I wouldn’t replace it in the sense of buying a new one, because I have like three thousand hair claws in my house. But there’s always an urgency to have at least two with me in my bag.

Three items that are on your beauty wish list right now

The Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Beautifying Cushion Foundation. But I realised that it’s only available in China! I’ve also been wanting to try Ouai’s dry shampoo, and last but not least, Biodance’s full range of Real Deep Masks. I’ve tried one, and it’s my absolute favourite!

A person you have the biggest beauty crush on, and why?

Jennie from Blackpink. I always found myself referencing her hair and makeup style.

Something you’re gatekeeping right now. Spill

Oh, my god. I bought this amazing body scrub from Bangkok—it’s just the best body scrub that I’ve ever tried in my life. It’s from a Thai brand, The Skin Gelato. The texture is so good, it’s insane. Give it a try, you can thank me later, girls.

A trend that needs to die

Y2K. I’ve had enough!

A viral product that does nothing for you

I don’t really try viral products cause I’ve truly understood that not everything works on everyone. Plus, I’m rarely on TikTok, so I only know of a certain product’s virality after it’s not viral anymore, hence I never felt the need to try it.

A makeup step you will never skip before you head out the door

Sunscreen! It’s cliché and it’s been repeated a million times, but that’s only because it’s true. I may not be the best at reapplication, but at least it’s always applied every time I go out.

The skincare item that completely transformed your skin for the better

My skin only works well with water-based moisturisers. It’s something that I had to learn the hard way. In my early days of accepting PR gifts, a luxury brand once sent me its rich, creamy moisturiser and—don’t get me wrong, it works amazingly on some people—but upon incorporating it in my skincare routine for a month, I experienced my first-ever breakout.

I was around 21 at the time, and I had to learn the hard way that products with too much moisture and rich ingredients are not for everybody. It took me a whole year to clear my skin again. So now I just stick to gel-based moisturiser. At the moment, I’m using Skintific’s 5X Ceramide Barrier Moisture Gel, and my skin has been stable with no breakouts in sight.

Your trick to achieve the best hair day

A complete hair wash and hair care routine the night before an important day. And always dry it properly before sleep. I think my hair texture is naturally wavy, so I’ll always wake up with effortless curls. I just have to put on some hair serum and I’m good to go!

An unexpected beauty hack you always incorporate into your routine

Eyebrow and eyelash serum! I always get my brows and lashes laminated at the Hairtric and Lashility in Bangsar, so having the serum always helps me create that clean girl eye look.

An underrated perfume you think everyone should give a chance to

I discovered this Korean fragrance brand, Born To Stand Out, two years ago at their store in Seoul, and I’ve since been in love with their scents and aesthetics. I don’t think they’re that underrated now, especially since the brand has arrived in Malaysia.

The last beauty indulgence you had

A full Korean hair spa in Seoul last September. It was the best!

A song that will always get you in the mood to get ready

I’ve been listening to a lot of Frank Ocean lately.

Brands that check all the boxes for you

Brands that are pro-Palestine.

Malaysians you look up to

Someone I’m happy to call a friend and a sister, Yuna. And also, Khairul Aming. KA for Prime Minister, please.

A mantra that you live by

“Everything in moderation.” I think that goes without saying.
