This summer, global K-pop sensation NewJeans is set to take the world by storm once again with its highly infectious music and electrifying stage presence. In addition to their long-awaited comeback on 24 May with tracks like How Sweet and Bubble Gum, the girls are gearing up for their Japanese debut on 21 June with Supernatural and Right Now. Following the announcement, new concept photos were unveiled on Instagram that teased NewJeans’s exciting collaboration with two of Japan’s biggest creatives: contemporary artist Takashi Murakami and streetwear designer Hiroshi Fujiwara.

Each member of NewJeans rocks ’90s-streetwear-inspired looks featuring oversized tees, baggy blue jeans, classic Timberland boots and camo baseball hats. As of now, information about the collaboration has been kept under wraps but judging from a close-up shot of the tee with signatures from the girls and Fujiwara, it seems like we can expect a line of trendy T-shirts. Fujiwara is best known for revolutionising the streetwear culture in Japan, earning him the nickname, “Godfather of Streetwear”. He is the founder of the cult T-shirt label Goodenough and has partnered with the biggest brands in fashion such as Louis Vuitton, Bulgari and Supreme.

NewJeans will drop three versions of their Supernatural album that will showcase colourful anime-inspired illustrations that have been synonymous with Murakami. And if that wasn’t exciting enough, the Japanese artist has also designed a collection of crossbody and drawstring bags, featuring his distinctive flower motif.  In a video teaser for Right Now, Murakami introduces new anime-inspired character art for each NewJeans member. The girls are seen strolling through a whimsical forest in search of a love potion, only to stumble upon a rainbow flower that triggers a magical transformation that completely alters their appearance.

You can now pre-order the Supernatural album and shop the NewJeans collaborations here.
