First Impressions: Samsung Galaxy S24+ Parades Minimum Changes with Maximum Impact

If quiet luxury was a smartphone.

Yes, the rumour is true: Samsung has hopped on the artificial intelligence (AI) bandwagon and its Galaxy S24 series is the first of many to receive the treatment. Powered by Galaxy AI, the flagship smartphones are set to change the way we use our mobile devices, simplifying our routines even further. We recently had the opportunity to give the Samsung Galaxy S24+ a spin but before we go into the details, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty of this new device.

Similar to the packaging of the Galaxy Z Flip5 that we received last year, the Samsung Galaxy S24+ comes in that recognisable matte black box made from 100 per cent recycled paper material—sustainability continues to be a key factor at Samsung and it’s reflected in the new phone as well, but more on that later. Tucked inside the box are only the essentials: A USB-C cable, a warranty card, a quick start guide, a SIM ejection pin, and the device itself.

There isn’t a radical change when it comes to the form of the smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy S24+ still sports the candy bar design as its predecessor. The same goes for the hole-punch 12MP Front Camera, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and a stainless steel chassis—as opposed to the new Gorilla Glass Armor and titanium build on the Ultra version—and the rounded corners, which is a big selling point for us as it lends the device a sleeker appearance.

But that doesn’t mean the smartphone is without noteworthy enhancements. The slimmer and even bezel, for instance, makes room for a larger display. At 6.7-inch, the Galaxy S24+ promises an elevated screen time. That’s not to mention the QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2x upgrade—the previous model boasts a flat FHD+—which should deliver a more satisfying viewing experience for when you want to immerse yourself in your favourite movies and television shows.

The Galaxy S24+ remains faithful to the series’ original design on the rear cover and the flat aluminium frame albeit more streamlined to seamlessly connect the two. What’s more, they now have a matte finish for a more comfortable grip on the edges and to minimise fingerprint smudges. The standard triple-camera setup—12MP Ultra-Wide Camera, 50MP Wide Camera, and 10MP Telephoto Camera—each with individual protruding lens remains in place.

Available in Earth minerals-inspired tones namely Amber Yellow, Cobalt Violet, Marble Gray, and Onyx Black, the Samsung Galaxy S24+ reiterates its intention for its users to embrace self-expression. That being said, the Marble Gray version wins out in the end because we never steer away from the classic. Besides, the versatile colour allows the phone to be the perfect accessory regardless of the look you full from your wardrobe.
