Bag of the Week: LOEWE Amazona 180 Bag

You can just tell the leather of this bag is chef’s kiss.

Bag of the Week is a franchise that highlights the latest, most hyped luxury bags. Each week, we showcase a bag that is generating significant buzz, whether for its design, exclusivity, or popularity. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on the LOEWE Amazona 180 Bag.

For Spring/Summer 2026, co-creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez revisit one of the LOEWE’s most enduring silhouettes—the Amazona—reimagining it as the Amazona 180 bag, a celebration of LOEWE’s 180 year legacy.

First introduced in 1975, the Amazona emerged during a period of cultural transformation in Spain. Designed for women stepping into the workforce, it rejected rigid, ornamental conventions in favour of something softer, more responsive—an elegant companion for modern life. Its debut in the Ante Oro collection, crafted in gold suede with brown leather piping and stamped with Vicente Vela’s newly conceived Anagram, marked a turning point for the house: the birth of LOEWE’s soft leather language.

Five decades on, that language evolves. The Amazona 180 retains the spirit of its predecessor but loosens its posture. This time, the Amazona is designed to be seen open—an intentional gesture that lends it a slouchy, lived in attitude. It’s a glimpse into the intimacy of everyday carry. Inside, a new double-L insignia subtly announces LOEWE’s evolving visual identity across categories. For those who prefer discretion, a concealed magnetic closure keeps essentials secure without compromising the bag’s nonchalant appeal.

Craft remains at its core. Two meticulously constructed compartments balance structure with fluidity, while precise leather binding and the house’s signature domed side panels reinforce its architectural integrity. Every detail feels considered—from the interior flat pocket to the left-side D-ring, which invites personalisation in the form of charms or keepsakes.

Functionality of this bag is non-negotiable. Carried by the short handle, slung over the shoulder, or worn crossbody, the Amazona 180 adapts with ease. It comes in a versatile range of sizes—mini, small, and large—and in a palette that moves from classic to bold: Black, Dark Chestnut, Royal Azur, Ink Navy, Daisy Yellow, Lava Grey, White, and the original Gold/Chocolate suede for those drawn to its roots.

At 180 years, LOEWE isn’t looking back. It’s simply looking again—from another angle.
