After a winter of romantic whiplash and workplace drama in season four, Emily Cooper isn’t slowing down; she’s simply switching cities. Netflix has just dropped the first-look images from Emily in Paris Season 5, along with a big reveal: Emily’s heading to Italy. Think Venetian views, Roman rooftops, and of course, all the emotional baggage you’d expect from our favourite American expat.
Emily Cooper is back, this time with a passport stamped and heels firmly planted in Rome. Following season four’s love triangle chaos and couture cliffhangers, the new season premiering December 18 takes Emily from Paris to the cobbled streets of Italy, where she’s now heading up Agence Grateau’s Rome office. But don’t let the picture-perfect backdrops fool you; her life is anything but stable.
Season four saw Emily (Lilly Collins) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) finally call it quits, Camille (Camille Razat) return to Paris only to end her post-Gabriel (Lucas Nicolas Bravo) fling with Sofia, and Emily have a fateful run-in with handsome Italian businessman Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) on the slopes. Meanwhile, Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) was caught in the middle of a scandal, and Mindy (Ashley Park) got cut from Eurovision thanks to her boyfriend (now ex), Nico.

Fast forward to Season 5, and Emily has officially entered her Italian era. It’s giving Roman romance, professional curveballs, and some major style moments. Creator Darren Star calls this season “A Tale of Two Cities”—Paris and Rome, love and loss, fantasy and fallout. And while Emily might be living la dolce vita, there’s plenty left unresolved in the City.
From career setbacks to relationship fallout, her picture-perfect world cracks when a bold professional move backfires and an unexpected secret threatens one of her closest bonds. Naturally.
As always, the fashion? Just as loud as the drama. Structured blazers, exaggerated silhouettes, and pops of colour that would make even Sylvie sigh. Costume designer Marilyn Fitoussi is still unapologetically maximalist, and Rome might just be the place where her vision feels most at home.
All 10 episodes of Emily in Paris season five drop on December 18. Until then, brush up on your French and your Italian; it’s going to be très chic and molto dramatic.
