Bag of the Week: Chloé Paddington Bag

The Paddington's comeback isn’t about nostalgia. It’s about evolution.

Bag of the Week is a franchise that highlights the latest, most hyped luxury bags. Each week, we showcase a bag that is generating significant buzz, whether for its design, exclusivity, or popularity. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on the Chloé Paddington Bag.

The new Chloé Paddington campaign, set in a sensual and romantic Paris, feels like a love letter to women in motion—their ease, their intimacy, their quiet strength. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Mati Diop and shot on 35mm film, the short captures fleeting encounters and shifting light across the city, with every frame humming with natural sensuality.

In David Sims’ black-and-white stills, Kendall Jenner, Aimee Lou Wood, and Anna from Meovv embody three distinct moods. Each woman carries her own rhythm and story, yet all are connected through the Paddington bag. In their hands, it becomes more than an accessory; it’s a companion with character, worn and loved.

“I wanted to capture the Paddington as it lives today—spontaneous, not precious. A bag that’s become part of women’s lives, carrying both intimacy and character,” says Chemena Kamali, Chloé’s Creative Director. “Captured in Paris, the images have a natural sensuality and ease, while paying homage to the spirit of 1970s French cinema.”

When it appeared on Chloé’s Spring/Summer 2005 runway, the Paddington became an instant phenomenon. Every one of the 8,000 bags produced sold out before even reaching the shop floor. Its slouchy silhouette and distinctive brass padlock came to define the casual-luxe spirit of the early 2000s.

Two decades later, the Paddington returns. Reintroduced on Chloé’s Fall/Winter 2025 runway, Kamali’s revival honours its heritage while refining it for modern life. The iconic padlock remains functional, but the hardware is lighter and the structure more fluid. Crafted from supple, washed vegetable-tanned leather, it develops a natural patina that feels personal to each wearer. A single-zip opening and an adjusted shoulder drop make it even easier to carry.

The Paddington’s comeback isn’t about nostalgia. It’s about evolution. Like the women below who carry it, the bag has matured and softened with time, yet it still holds the same spirit of independence that made it an icon.
