It was big wins all around at the Michelin Guide 2026 KL & Penang ceremony earlier today, held at Four Seasons Hotel KL. The good news is that all the recipients of last year’s one Michelin star retained their stars—DC Restaurant, Au Jardin, Molina, Chim by Chef Noom, Aunty Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery, and Beta KL. The better news? Two new restaurants were awarded a one Michelin star, and they are coincidentally located on the same street in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI): modern Malaysian restaurants Terra Dining and Akar.
Chef Darren Teoh was perhaps the biggest winner this year, with his restaurant Dewakan retaining its two Michelin stars for the third year running and its Green Star for a second year for their efforts in sustainability. His new French restaurant Bidou also won a special award at the ceremony: Opening of the Year. The restaurant offers authentic French cuisine, paying homage to French “nouvelle cuisine” and is inspired by legends like Paul Bocuse and Michel Guérard. Bidou showcases Teoh’s French culinary heritage while paying tribute to French gastronomic culture.
Other notable mentions include Chef Wong Chin Hua—better known as Chef Chin—of Restaurant Shu KL who received the Young Chef Award. Incidentally, the one-year-old restaurant also entered the Michelin Select list. Maverick Fung of K Kuala Lumpur was also given the Guide Service Award for his attentiveness and deep knowledge of ingredients, offering not just service but a crafted experience for any diners at the kaiseki restaurant.
