Wedding bells are ringing for Zendaya, but not with Spider-Man’s Tom Holland… Instead, we’re about to watch her tie the knot with Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson in their latest film. A pairing that’s almost too good to be true, R-Patz and Zendaya will appear alongside each other in A24’s upcoming film, The Drama. The premise, you ask? A modern drama-meets-rom-com about a couple on the verge of saying ‘I do’.
In true A24 fashion, the first update came in the form of a good old stunt. A mock engagement announcement ran in an issue of the Boston Globe last year, featuring a ruffle-haired Robert sat with a grinning Zendaya on his lap, flashing an extremely shiny rock on her ring finger. The notice read, ‘Mr. and Mrs. Roger Harwood of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, announce the engagement of their daughter, Emma Harwood, to Charlie Thompson, son of Mr. And Mrs. Alan Thompson of London, England.’
With the premiere now here, the date is drawing closer – and this is one film trip we’ve absolutely RSVP’d too. When is The Drama released? And what’s the plot twist that’s got everyone talking? Here’s what we know…
Who is in the cast of The Drama?
Robert Pattison (Die My Love, Mickey 17) will appear in Norwegian filmmaker Kristoff Borgli’s The Drama as the groom, Charlie Thompson, with Zendaya (Challengers, Euphoria) appearing as the bride, Emma Harwood. This may well be a match made in heaven for the two actors, who are set to be spending a lot of time together over the next 12 months. The Drama isn’t their only project together, with Robert joining the cast of Dune three, and the pair also both appearing in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
The notice also gave us a few other details about our betrothed. Miss Harwood is described as being a ‘2013 graduate of Portside High School and a 2017 honors graduate of Boston University, where she earned her B.A. degree in English. She is currently employed at Mission Books.’
As for the groom, Mr Thompson is described as being ‘a 2004 graduate of Eaton College and went on to earn his Ph.D in Art History from Tufts University. He serves as the Director of the Cambridge Art Museum.’
Given the graduation dates, fans are expecting a little age gap romance might be at play.
Other stars who will appear include musician Alana Haim (Licorice Pizza), Mamoudou Athie (Uncorked, Black Box), Michael Abbott Jr. (The Dark and the Wicked, Killers of the Flower Moon), Sydney Lemmon (Firestarter, Helstrom), and Hailey Gates (Atropia, States of Undress).
What is the plot of The Drama?
According to a synopsis, ‘Days before their wedding, a couple’s relationship is shaken when one partner discovers unsettling truths about the other.’ Another plot description adds, ‘A happily engaged couple is put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails.’
The trailer (which you can watch below) shows Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as loved-up couple Emma and Charlie, enjoying the run-up to their wedding. In one scene, the pair are enjoying some casual drinks with another couple – played by Alana Haim and Mamoudou Athie – when the conversation takes a turn. As each person goes on to share the ‘worst thing they’ve ever done,’ reactions to Zendaya’s disclosure has left fans guessing that her character did something pretty outrageous.
It’s a wild pivot that’s left fans desperate for more. Of course, there have been some fan theories over on Reddit of what Zendaya’s character reveals – with fans guessing everything from ‘planning a school shooting’ to plotting herself into her soon-to-be husband’s life à la Saltburn.
When is The Drama released?
Save the date! As per the our Boston Glove notice, viewers are invited to the wedding on 3 April 2026 (which just so happens to be the day the film hits cinemas in America). We’re not totally sure when it will arrive in the UK, but we’ll keep you updated.
Can I watch a trailer for The Drama?
Yes! The official dropped last month (3 February) – and it’s left us all wondering just what did Emma do?…
