This art gallery prioritises Malaysian and Southeast Asian art, and they don’t merely showcase paintings. This collection is by UR-MU, a gallery as well. However, what makes this art gallery stand out is that it specialises in displaying nearly 70 artworks from the personal collection of Ng Sek San. With arts that tackle protest and resistance dating back to the 1990s until the modern day. They highlight Malaysian and regional political movements, retelling the stories of these important historical moments.

Wei-Ling Gallery
They have two different branches, Wei-Ling Gallery and Wei-Ling Contemporary. Their flagship gallery is located in a shophouse that was once destroyed by a fire in 2004. Back then, it was designed by notable Malaysian architect Professor Jimmy CS Lim, uniquely making the interior an installation itself. They have a backlist of monographs, artist books, and exhibition catalogues, showing appreciation for overlooked features of an artist. This gallery has quite the staircases, so be prepared to go up and down flights of stairs.

Semua House
Semua House is situated at the historic Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (Tar) filled to the brim with exciting and artsy events, including exhibitions. What was once a renowned textile trade established in 1986 is now a 120 square foot birthing ground for small businesses and artists. The building itself is vibrant with colour, which isn’t surprising that it holds so many art-related events. Stay abreast with the current running exhibitions through their social media.

Yap Ah Shak House
This gorgeous piece of architecture holds space for work, specifically curated to cater to different work-related needs. From business meetings to a private workspace, this place favours the luxury of working comfortably. However, this building also holds space for anything art-related. There are workshops, live music performances, gallery showcases, intimate readings, film screenings, talks, and seasonal design/craft markets. From the 7th until the 14th of September, they will exhibit ASEAN Art & Textiles: A World of Seams and Seamlessness, showcasing shared cultural connections between ASEAN nations through different forms of artistic expressions and historical textiles.

Art House Gallery
This gallery is nestled in the iconic blue building known as Central Market. Not only do they promote works of Malaysian, Chinese, and Indonesian artists, but also tribal and native artists from Borneo, Papua New Guinea, and Africa. They are also proud of their Southeast Asian and Chinese antique collections. Art House Gallery is very diverse with the art they choose to display, showing us that art goes beyond region and ethnicity.

National Art Gallery
Located next to the Istana Budaya Malaysia main venue, this gallery is Malaysia’s official art institution. Since the early sixties, they have held many exhibitions, sometimes even multiple at once. As of press time, they have Spatial Creative Ceramic Zone, KePulauan: Refleksi BIMP-EAGA and Cinta Buatan Malaysia.

The Object Store
Located on the 1st floor of REXKLUP, The Object Store is a space that houses many beautiful furniture pieces, aiming to mirror the rituals of a reading room. Their space often welcomes many artistic events, such as exhibitions. Their most recent exhibition is 𝗛𝗘𝗥 | 她 𝘁ā: 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗱𝗮𝘆. This exhibition showcases ceramic pieces by Angie Ng and Fabiana Ambrogi from 30th June until 12th July.
