You may recognise him from his viral specials Guess How Much and Good Deal, or his role as Jian-Yang on Silicon Valley (2014), but nothing beats being in the room when he’s on a roll. A night at the Idea Live Arena could prove that stand-up comedy might still be the best form of group therapy.

It revisits Malaysia’s 1960s artists—bold, modern and newly independent—to ask what wisdom and creative energy we’ve inherited from them. It’s about paying homage to our cultural roots and remembering them.

Tickets are RM10 for a chance to listen in on an enriching discussion about the critically acclaimed poetry.

Things To Do In November Outside of KL
The City of Willows
After a celebrated previous exhibition at George Town Festival, artists Chong Yan Chuah and Simon Soon’s playable art installation, The City of Willows, is at Cultprint. It’s been expanded with The Geneacosm Index—a catalogue of algorithmically generated portraits imagining speculative Peranakan futures for a haunting experience. First commissioned by Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin, it reinterprets 19th-century Triad rituals through mythic Southeast Asian landscapes, blending history with digital art to send players on a quest to search for the symbolic sanctuary of the City of Willows.
Date: 11 October to 7 December, every Friday to Sunday, 12 pm to 7 pm
Address: Cultprint, 35, Lebuh Melayu, 10300 George Town, Penang
